Tour Guide Israel – The Desert Choke or Broomrape
The Desert Choke is a parasitic desert plant species. The plant lacks chlorophyll and obtains nutrients and water from the host plants to whose roots it attaches itself and literally sucks or lives off the nutrients and the liquid from the host-plant’s roots.
My common name for this flower is the “lawyer”, or the “banker”, or “mister-ten-percent”. (All the lawyers and bankers – my apologies)
It is also well known in Chinese medicine.
The flower is relatively difficult to find and you will need the services of Israel tour guides during your tours in Israel.
Here are some pictures from the two last springs – taken in the Arad Area and the Large-Machtesh area.
